Ms. Hurt - Principal

Welcome to KCMS! We are so excited to have you join our Ken Caryl Family and for trusting us to educate your most valuable treasures!

My name is Christie Hurt and this is my 3rd year as the school principal. Prior to becoming principal, I served as the assistant principal here for four years. I came to Jefferson County from Denver Public Schools where I was an assistant principal for six years at the elementary level and taught special education at the middle school level. I have loved my time at KCMS! We have an amazing school, kids, families and all-around community! I look forward to our continued work together to make this school the very best!

A little bit about myself…I’m originally from North Dakota and moved to Colorado after I graduated from college. I have my undergraduate degree in elementary education and my master’s degree in special education. I have a wonderful husband, three beautiful kids and one dog that keep me busy in my free time. Along with chasing after my family, I enjoy being outdoors and being a “sports” mom.

I’m looking forward to the school year and watching your children grow into young adults!

We hope you have a great year!

Ms. Gagnon - Assistant Principal

First and foremost, I would like to welcome you to the Spartan Family! This is my third year at KCMS serving as an assistant principal. I came from Douglas County School District where I was a high school social studies teacher, dean of students, and assistant principal. I am excited to get to know each of you and work with the Jeffco community to develop some of the best students in the country.

I am a Colorado native and never plan to leave this great state. When I am not busy with work I love to go camping, boating and hiking. These activities are even more fun with my wonderful husband, two kids and dog. When I do leave Colorado, it is to travel to different places around the world learning about other cultures and trying exotic foods. I earned my bachelor's degree in Social Science Education from the University of Northern Colorado and my master's degree in Education Administration from the University of Phoenix.

I hope this is a great school year and please know my door is always open!

Mr. Kostecki - Dean of Students

Ahoy Spartan Community and welcome aboard to the 2018/2019 school year! I am looking forward to joining the Ken Caryl family and working with all of you this year. I am transitioning into a new role as Dean of Students and looking forward to helping you in any way I can. I have taught STEM courses for 18 years, starting in South St Paul, Minnesota, then Palm Spring, California and landing in Colorado for seven years at Falcon Bluffs Middle School.

I grew up in Little Canada, Minnesota, just north of St. Paul and learned to love winter and the sports it can offer, especially hockey, cross country skiing and snowboarding. With an overwhelming sense of wanderlust, I moved out west to Montana and graduated with a biology degree and then moved further west to Portland, Oregon and earned my master's degree in teaching.

I continue to love all of the wonders of the outdoors and enjoy camping, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, playing and listening to music and breathing the clean mountain air. My wife, Amanda and I enjoy traveling and learning about the cultures and foods from people around the world. We look forward to taking our daughter to her first new country sometime soon.

I can't wait to meet everyone and to help you grow into the person you want to be!
