All students wanting to take an advanced math course at KCMS for the 2019-2020 school year must take an Advanced Math Placement Test. Click here for more information. All students who want to take an advanced math course at Ken Caryl Middle School (KCMS) must take an Advanced Math Placement test, this spring, for the desired math course.

Advanced Math Courses Offered at Ken Caryl:
7th grade Math (for 6th graders)
8th grade Math (for 6th or 7th graders)
Algebra I for (for 7th or 8th graders)
Geometry (for 7th or 8th graders)

We will have two events for students to take the Advanced Math Placement test. Students do not need to sign up in advance and do not need to bring anything with them; however, students do need to know what level they are testing for (see options above). Most families should plan on their child taking about an hour to complete the assessment, but times vary per student.

Advanced Math Placement Test Testing Times:
Saturday, April 6th, at 9:00a.m.
Wednesday, April 10th, at 7:45a.m. (make- up day)

We spend a substantial amount of time and thought into placing students in the course that will be most suitable for their needs, before they start the school year. Since there are so many data points, and because we are often waiting for spring MAP scores before making final decisions, communication to families will not occur until close to the end of the school year.

Determining factors for Advanced Math Course include:
Teacher recommendation
MAP scores from this year
Scores on Advanced Math Placement test at KCMS
Reported work ethic from current teacher
