Meet the Principal

Principal Lance Williams

Hello Spartans,

As the principal of Ken Caryl Middle School my hope is to get to know every Spartan by name, need and strength. I want to ensure that as a student at Ken Caryl Middle School is a safe place where you will be valued, supported, and encouraged to grow academically, socially, and personally. Ken Caryl is a place where you will be encouraged to be a risk taker, persevere through challenges, and invest in yourself and our community.

I would like to share with the students a little bit about me. I am a proud father of two Jeffco Students, and my wife also serves the Jefferson County Community as an educator. I am a native of Colorado and enjoy spending time riding mountain bikes, fishing, and watching my children play soccer, basketball and football. I have been a teacher for 25 years with most of that time serving Jeffco Public Schools. I am a Denver Sports fan and enjoy watching the Nuggets, Broncos, Avs and Rockies. I attended the University of Northern Colorado and earned both my undergraduate and graduate degree from UNC.

I feel very lucky that I get to serve the Columbine Community as your principal. I enjoy talking and visiting with students both at school and in the community. I would invite all students to stop me in the hallway or in the community to talk with me about your experience as a Spartan and to share with me something about yourself. My goal is to ensure that your middle school experience is positive and filled with challenge and opportunity. Please reach out to me personally or electronically to make sure that the experience I want for you is the experience that you are getting.

Go Spartans,

Mr. Williams

Assistant Principal Aryann Roberts

Welcome to the school year! I am personally ready for an amazing year.

I am so excited for my fourth year as a member of the Ken Caryl Spartan family. I could not be happier to be at a school with such a long history of excellence. I enjoy working with middle students whom I know to be curiously engaged in their school. I bring my experience in the classroom and administration to help and support students, teachers and staff to create a stronger school and community. I believe in teaching students that we are a community of learners and that we need to take care of one another. I believe that all students can be successful and have areas that they are strong and areas to develop.

I am a Colorado native, attended Jefferson County Schools from kindergarten through graduation, and graduated from CSU in Family and Consumer Science. Following graduation, I spent 11 years in Douglas County as a FACS teacher and school administrator at the high school level. The last seven years in administration have fulfilled a desire to serve families, students, and community in ways I could not in the classroom. I have always felt my heart belonged to Jefferson County and I love being back home.

I hope to get to know each and every one of you!

I am thrilled to join the Ken Caryl community this year! I am a Colorado native, a Columbine HS graduate, and spent many years at the high school level in music, technology, intervention, and practical arts positions preparing for this new role. I hold undergraduate degrees in K-12 music education and percussion performance and a master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Northern Colorado. I am a chess student, runner, drummer, and coffee fanatic who loves hiking and traveling with my family. I am most proud of the strong relationships I have forged with students, families, and colleagues over the years.

After teaching in Aurora for five years, I moved to Littleton's Heritage High School in 2002. I love the teaching profession for the opportunities to foster curiosity in young people and challenge their limits. I challenge my own from time to time by training for and running marathons. I love live music for its power to bring people together and spent the last 17 years drumming with a local 80s tribute band, performing in nearly 2,000 shows across the United States.

I am excited this year to serve KCMS where I was a student (once upon a time) and look forward to helping every Spartan student, teacher, and community member feel welcome and valued. I can't wait to meet you!
